Sleep timer
iOS has a universal "sleep timer" functionality that works for any audio or video playing app , including Music Speed, Apple Music, YouTube, podcasts, audiobooks, and third-party music streaming services.
This "sleep timer" isn't found directly within the music apps, but rather within the Clock app on your iPhone or iPad. Here's how it works:
How to Use the iOS Built-in Sleep Timer:
- Open the Clock App: Find and tap the "Clock" app icon on your iPhone or iPad.
- Go to the "Timer" Tab: At the bottom of the Clock app, tap on the "Timer" tab (it usually looks like a stopwatch icon).

- Set Your Desired Time: Use the scrolling dials to set the duration you want your music to play (e.g., 30 minutes, 1 hour, etc.).

- Tap "When Timer Ends": This option is usually located below the timer duration.

- Scroll Down and Select "Stop Playing": Scroll all the way to the very bottom of the list of alarm sounds. You'll see an option called "Stop Playing." Select this.

- Tap "Set": Tap the "Set" button in the top right corner to confirm this action.
- Tap "Start": Go back to the main Timer screen and tap the "Start" button to begin your timer.

What Happens When the Timer Ends:
When the timer reaches zero, instead of playing an audible alarm sound, your iPhone will:
- Stop playing all audio and video: This applies to whatever app is currently playing media.
- Lock your screen: This helps save battery life.
Why this is useful:
- Universal functionality: Works with any app that plays audio or video, even if that app doesn't have its own sleep timer.
- Battery saving: Prevents your device from playing media all night and draining its battery.
- Better sleep: Helps you drift off to sleep without worrying about the music continuing to play or needing to manually turn it off later.
- Convenience: Once you set "Stop Playing" as the action for "When Timer Ends," the Clock app remembers this setting. This means you can quickly start a sleep timer from the Control Center in the future without going back into the Clock app's settings every time.
Important Note: If you regularly use the Timer for other purposes where you do want an audible alarm (e.g., cooking, exercise), remember to go back into the Clock app and change the "When Timer Ends" setting back to a tone or sound when you're done with the sleep timer. Otherwise, your next timer will silently stop playing media instead of alerting you.
You can also use Siri to set this up quickly. For example, you can say, "Hey Siri, stop playing in 30 minutes," after you've started your music.Siri will then set the timer with the "Stop Playing" function.
